John 1:45-46
Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found Him of whom Moses in the law, and also the prophets, wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” And Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.”
My hometown is not real small. But we never think of anyone famous coming from it. We were all thrilled when a young man became a professional baseball player. This was the way it must have been for the residents of Nazareth. Nathanael must have been thinking "Not king, nor governor, nor prophet has never come from Nazareth! Nobody that is somebody."But yet here is Phillip telling him all those writings by the various men of God in the Old Testament are talking about this guy!! Just think of the look of disbelief that must have come over Nathanael. The Old Testament was sacred writings to the Israelites. And the writings of Moses and the Prophets of old told of a mighty one being sent by God for the salvation of the world. Then to prove it to Nathanael, Phillip tells him to come and see this mighty Man of God! A word of encouragement to all those who have not yet come to and received Jesus (The Son of God) into their hearts and lives - Come and see!!
Lord, it does not matter where any of us come from. All that really matters is how I spend this precious life you have given me in service to You and getting closer to Lord Jesus every day. In Jesus name, amen!!
