Mark 3:4

Then Jesus asked them, “Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” But they remained silent.

Jesus is, once again, dealing with the scribes (Jewish religious lawyers) and Pharisees (Jewish religious leaders and teachers). Notice how often Jesus was confronted by the Scribes and Pharisees. Jesus is telling the people how the important thing in life is to heed the cry of human need regardless of the hindrances telling you not to. Here, Jesus tells us that even on the Sabbath (Sunday for most Christian believers today) it was important to reach out to people in need, to hear the cry of the hurting, and to do something about it. Jesus is telling us today to act and not just go through the rituals of attending church, reciting our prayers, and reading our Bible. Jesus was very active while He was here on earth, healing the sick, speaking to the people and DOING His Father's work. Jesus SERVED while He was here on earth. He is our example. Jesus not only talked but served. We are to do the same. Jesus loved God and loved men. To Him love in action is more important than ritual. Jesus stressed the most important thing in the world is not the correct performance of religious ritual, but the spontaneous response to the problems of the world.

Lord, help me to see the tears of the world around me and to do something about it. I do not want to be stuck living a life of religious ritual, but I want to be like You in reaching out to those in need. In Jesus name, amen!!
