Prayer Guide - January 2010
  1. Happy New Year! Yes, it is a new year and can be looked upon as a place for a fresh start on life. We don’t need a calendar to make a fresh start though. The Bible tells us in 1 John 1:9, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unright-eousness. Thank you, Savior, for forgiving me. I am surely a sinner and you are the only one who can “purify me”

  2. “There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two small fish”,   John 6:9. Have you ever felt like your resources or abilities are so insignificant (as compared to those of others) that they don’t even count? Jesus can use whatever you have if you will let him.  Good Shepherd, I underestimate both what I can do and what you can do. Here I am and here is what I have, use me.

  3. Does your state or local college have a Christian Studies Center? Our colleges tend to be liberal, anti-God, and anti-American places. A Christian Studies Center can be a wedge in an anti-God atmosphere and they need our support. Raboni, provide for these Christ centered assemblies so that they can be a light in often dark places.

  4. FCFI has mailed out the “2009 Harvest Report”. It chronicles many of the FCF outreaches and it is also a plan for finances to enable our outreaches to continue and expand. Jehovah Jireh (the Lord Our Provider), touch the hearts of both the retired couple who can offer $10 and the corporate executive who can spare thousands of dollars as well as all those in between so that FCFI can continue to share the gospel and help the needy.

  5. The FCFI Prayer Guide goes out to some 400 or so people each month by email or “snail mail”. Have you thought to pray for your fellow prayer warriors? Our Advocate, many people set aside some time each day to visit with you through our Prayer Guide and many other tools”.  Hear their prayers, Precious One, and bless them as they appeal to you on behalf of others and praise and thank you for your answers be they mundane or miraculous.

  6. Please pray for a new trip this year to a town along the Mexican border ,Fayesville, Texas. This trip will be led by Ron and Deb Herrold. They will be ministering to Spanish speaking folks at Immanuel Baptist Church. The existing building is up, needs the doors and windows and work on the interior. Bless and guide our team to use all of their gifts to share Your "Good News" with eager listeners.

  7. “Here I am!  I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him and he with me”, ReveLations 3:20.  Heavenly Friend (see John 15:14) I would love to have lunch (or breakfast or dinner) with you. Please come in and share your ideas with me. I would like to believe that I am an empty vessel waiting to be filled.

  8. “Silver and gold I (Peter) do not have, but what I have I give you (a beggar)”, Acts 3:6. This is a verse we all need to make a part of our everyday life. Jesus, I want to be your emissary. Yes, we can give you away. Our supply is endless as are the needs and the needy.

  9. ”The Lord your God is with you. He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you. He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing”, Zephania 3:17. Can you imagine God singing because He rejoices over you? This I “gotta see”! (and hear).  Father God, I am not very musical but I do enjoy good singing. I am so delighted that you are singing. Please don’t stop.

  10. “Like a scarecrow in a melon patch, their idols cannot speak.  They must be carried because they cannot walk”, Jeremiah 10:5.  Can you imagine praying to an idol like that? Yet, many of us still do. High Priest, we put our trust in you, If there are idols in our life, point them out so that we can discard them. We don’t need any helpless scarecrows.

  11. Our country (the USA) seems to be unraveling right before our eyes. However, God continues to offer us a solution to the problem. 2Chronicles 7:14 says “ --- if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and will heal their land”. Father God, help us to do what you require and heal our land.

  12. “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise”, Luke 22:43. That is what Jesus said to one of the men who hung on a cross next to Jesus. Why? Because the criminal asked Jesus to remember him when He came into His Kingdom. Have you asked Jesus to remember you? Jesus, remember me. I have the same qualifications as that criminal (actually, the same lack of qualifications) but I, too, wish to spend eternity with you.

  13. Americans and those from other nations as well are putting their “lives on the line” every day around the world but especially in Afghanistan and Iraq. Alpha and Omega, thank you for those brave individuals who fight to preserve and restore freedom. Help them to accomplish their purpose, keep them safe and secure, and reveal yourself to them is a special way.

  14. Israel seems to be a focal point for conflict and misunderstanding yet God promised Abraham “Lift up your eyes from where you are --- all the land that you see    I will give to you and your offspring forever”, Genesis 13:14,15. Sovereign Lord, we pray for the peace of Israel. Remember your promise, restore all of that land to the rightful owners and bring revival to that troubled land.

  15. “They have built the high placed of Baal to burn their sons in the fire as offerings to Baal - something that I did not command --- nor did it enter my mind”, Jeremiah 19:5. Today we abort babies to the god of convenience, something that also did not enter God’s mind. Bread of Life, forgive us as a nation and society that treat your gift of life as something to be so casually discarded. Restore in us the true value that each life has and lead us back to honoring each gift of life.

  16. “I the Lord, search the heart and examine the mind to reward a man according to what his deeds deserve”, Jeremiah 17:10. Are you ready to be searched and examined? Boy, I’m not so sure that I am.  Holy One, I tremble at the thought of you checking me out so closely. First, I need forgiveness; then I need an attitude adjustment so that I am not rewarded according to what I deserve.

  17. Jesus said, “ It is written and He (Jesus) was numbered with the trans-gressions --- “, Luke 22:37. It is hard to believe that is exactly why He came to earth; to take the penalty that you and I (the real transgressors) deserve. Thank you, My Lord, for taking my place on the cross. I don’t totally comprehend the magnitude of your sacrifice but I am eternally grateful for what you did.

  18. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday is celebrated today. M.L.K. is noted for saying “They (His children) will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character”. We can all say “Amen” to that. Light of the World, thank you for Martin Luther King and other great men and women who put freedom, justice, faith, and equality at the top of the list of human attributes.

  19. We are involved in a Sunday School class focusing on marriage and with an emphasis on how we and our marriage can be strengthened. Yet, in society, there are some who want the institution of marriage to include all kinds of combination including man + man and woman + woman. Yet, God said in Genesis 21:24, “ --- a man will leave his mother and father and be united to his wife and they will become one flesh”. Heavenly Father, we thank you for instituting marriage as you did. Help us to preserve it as you created it.

  20. “Neither hammer --- axe nor any iron tool was heard --- while it (Solomon’s temple) was being built”, 1 Kings 6:7 (NAS). Can you imagine building that magnificent temple without shaping tools? It demonstrates the quality of workmanship of all the suppliers. How is your workmanship? Chief Cornerstone, I want my workmanship to reflect you. Discipline and correct me to do my job as flawlessly as possible.

  21. “ --- speak truthfully”, Ephesians 4:24. That doesn’t mean that we should tell the neighbor lady that her hair is a mess or a man that his tie doesn’t match his shirt. What it means is that we should be honest and open in everything that we say and do even if it requires confrontation at times. “Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive” may be an old saying yet, “ --- the tongue is a small part of the body but it makes great boasts”, James 3:5. Lord, help us to control our unruly tongue and be honest in our dealings when speaking with others.

  22. “Is not wisdom found among the aged? Does not long life bring understanding?”, Job 12:12. As a seasoned citizen, I kind of like this verse. But, before you other “oldies” throw your shoulder out of joint patting yourself on the back, consider this. Our age is a “drop in the bucket” compared with our Lord. Ancient of Days, your wisdom surpasses that of all mankind put together. May we seek your wisdom rather than man’s

  23. “When He saw the crowds, He had compassion on them”, Matthew: 9:36. This verse sums up who our Lord Jesus is. Does it sum up who you are as well? Author of Our Faith, we so want to be like you having compassion on all who have a need. Help us to put our thoughts into action and look for and then try to meet the needs of others.

  24. George and Julie Holmes are returning to Albania for the sixteenth (or is the 17th or 18th) time to witness to their Albanian friends and they are leading a two week short mission trip starting on January 26, 2010. Lord of Lords, we exhort you to use George and Julie and their mission team and native Albanian workers to change the lives of many in that country to your honor and glory.

  25. “ I --- have poured out my soul before the Lord”, 1 Samuel 1:15. I believe this verse is how God wants us to communicate with Him. Let it “all hang out”, Wonderful Counselor. I am sometimes faithful, sometimes fickle, sometimes I want to praise you, other times I have myriad complaints, sometimes I want your guidance and other times I say, “don’t bother me”. Thank you for listening and “hanging in there” when I am “hanging out there”.

  26. Please don’t forget to pray for the many among us who are struggling with physical illness. Jenni Reiling and Judy Porter still continue to battle cancer and deal with the difficulty of treatments. My long time friend, John, just succumbed to this disease and his family needs are prayers as they deal with his passing. No doubt you have family and friends who need the Lord’s healing touch.  Great Physician, we don’t completely understand why there is so much sickness and disease in our world but we do understand that you have all the answers. Touch family and friends in a special way and bring peace to all of them.

  27. Illness is not the only scourge that impacts our community. Financial stress, broken relationships, and addictions also threaten many of us. Head of the Church, hear our prayer for restoration. Almost all of us need repair or renewal and especially in our relationship with you.

  28. “And God said, Let the water team with living creations and let birds fly above the earth”, Genesis 1:20. “Then God said let the land produce creatures according to their kind”, Genesis 1:24. “Then God said let us make man in our own image, in our likeness --- “, Genesis 1:26.  Creator God, we marvel at your creation and your creativity. We praise you for the gift of life and we praise you, too, for the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ, Our Lord.

  29. “You do not have because you do not ask”, James 4:2. Some clever person theorized that heaven is chuck full of fantastic gifts that just sit there because failed to ask for them. Bright Morning Star, are we dumb or what?  You have gifts for us beyond our imagination. Today, I ask for the gift of discernment as to what is good for me, my family, my church, my neighborhood, my business, and my country.

  30. Yesterday we prayed for discernment as to what to pray for or about. Today I would like to pray for boldness, “the righteous one as bold as a lion”, Proverbs 28:1. Lion of Judah, if you have gifts for me, my family, my friends, I need boldness to obey, to use them.  Remove timidity from my vocabulary and from my actions.

  31. Today’s modern English version of the King James Bible translates Solomon’s advice in Proverbs 4:23, “Be careful how you think; your life is shaped by your thoughts”. Proverbs 23:7 in the NAS Bible says, “For as he thinks within himself so he is”. Prince of Peace, you game me a “thinker” to think good thoughts, not a  bunch of trash and with your help I will think about “whatever is true --- noble --- right --- pure --- lovely --- admirable --- anything excellent or praiseworthy”, Philippians 4:8.
