“Building Fences in the Texas Bayou……..’til the Cows Come Home”

                                      “Operation: New Fences” April 25th

The Fellowship of Christian Farmers, International continues to building perimeter fences destroyed by Hurricane Ike.  238 farmers from 19 states have built over 200 miles of fences since January.  The month of April volunteer sign-up was catapulted by Texas Ag Commissioner, Todd Staples, press conference March 5th at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.   Commissioner Staples, announced “Operation: New Fences”  ----a call to action to donate wire, posts, cash and fence building skills in the five Gulf Coast counties hit the hardest by Hurricane Ike storm surge.  April 25th is a special day of fence building where Commissioner Staples will participate in one of five projects in Chambers and Jefferson Counties.  Your help is needed on April 25th.  To join the volunteer crew, complete a mission trip application on the website and note you want to work on a Hurricane Ike project.   If you can come a couple days early, FCFI has lodging and meals organized for you to help be part of the advance teams needed to get corner posts set and materials hauled to each of the five projects.  We want to have each job site ready for volunteers to hit the ground running on April 25th.   We are going to need several skid loaders, tractors with loaders, ATV’s for the five project sites.   If you have this equipment, plan on bringing it to the Bayou.

April 17th is the deadline for donated fence building materials to be delivered to the Winnie, TX Fairgrounds.  If you need supplies for your ranch, apply for wire & posts at www.TexasAgriculture.gov by April 17th, 2009.

The Fellowship of Christian Farmers, International is continuing throughout the spring and summer, its Hurricane Ike Rapid Response disaster relief campaign in Chambers & Jefferson Counties.   Lodging and meals have been established in Old River/Winfree & Oak Island, Texas for volunteer farmers and ranchers to donate time to re-build fences destroyed by Hurricane Ike’s storm surge.  Hurricane Ike made landfall September 12th in Galveston Bay and had a coastal storm surge that reached 275 mile east of the hurricane’s eye.  Plan on organizing a crew and help rebuild fences in the Gulf.   FFA Chapters from Wisconsin, Indiana, and Iowa have had a big impact in Chambers County this winter.

The Fellowship of Christian Farmers’ assessment team has directly contacted Southeast Texas ranchers to learn what is needed.   Drought conditions exist in Southeast Texas with wildfires breaking out in the region each week in February.  Thank the Lord for the rain that has fallen in March! Hay may be needed, but is available locally in Texas.   Cash donations are needed to buy diesel fuel to transport donated hay, if necessary.  Barbed wire and posts are also needed to keep volunteers building fence until the heat of summer occurs.

Please pray for the Lord’s protection and strength for the farm families impacted by hurricane damage.  For many families in the bayou, they have been wiped out twice in three years.  The Lord Jesus commanded us to, “Love the Lord thy God with all your  heart & strength; and love your neighbor as yourself .”  The Fellowship of Christian Farmers is striving to puts wheels under this prayer.

For more information regarding how you can join the Hurricane Ike Recovery Team, call 309-365-8710 or e-mail     All cash gifts are tax deductible.  Thank you for praying and partnering with the ministry.
