“What’s In Your Worldview?”
A person’s worldview represents that person’s most fundamental beliefs and assumptions about the universe he inhabits. It reflects how he would answer all the big questions of human existence: fundamental questions about who and what we are, where we came from, why we’re here, where we’re headed, the meaning and purpose of life, the nature of the afterlife, and what counts as a good life here and now.
What is a Biblical worldview? A lot of people think a Biblical worldview is that you add the Bible to your way of thinking. But we have to understand that the Bible is not just a book of stories with moral and spiritual implications. The Bible is the revelation from God who knows everything there is to know about everything. And as such, we understand that He has revealed to us the history concerning the past to enable us to understand the present.
Your worldview is your way of thinking. And your worldview just doesn’t just come out of thin air. Your worldview has a foundation, and that foundation is either God’s Word or man’s word. There are only two ultimate foundations. You either build your house on the rock (God’s Word), or you build your house on the sand (man’s word). A true Biblical worldview means you start from God’s Word to build your way of thinking.
It means you can’t look at the present world today to understand what happened in the past to bring it into being. We have to start with what God has told us. If you don’t start with God’s Word, then all you have is man’s word and man’s guess about what happened in the past is just a hypothesis. So, to have a Biblical worldview, you must start from what God has revealed. He told us there were the events of Creation. The creation is six days. The creation of man and woman. The origin of sin. The origin of death because of man’s sin. The promise of the Savior. The event of the flood of Noah’s day. The building of Noah’s ark. The event of the tower of Babel after the Great Flood in which the human race was dispersed throughout the earth. When you understand that history – and that’s the history of Genesis 1 to 11 – it’s the foundation for a Biblical worldview. In fact, it’s the foundation for everything.
So, based on my Biblical worldview, this is what I believe … 1) I believe people of faith must be bold. 2) I believe that traditional marriage between a man and a woman is not based on government decree but is the foundational building block of society given by God and it may not be tampered with without severe consequences from God Himself. 3) I believe life is sacred from conception to birth. 4) I believe in grace for tragically wounded mothers. 5) I believe that Biblical truths inspired our Constitution. 6) I believe the Church is built on the bold expression of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ for the sins of the world. 7) I believe the Gospel is the power of God for salvation. 8) I believe that one day “the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea,” (Habakkuk 2:14). 9) I believe the Bible when it says that God puts world leaders in power and that God takes them out of power, (Daniel 2:21). 10) I believe God can do anything and with God all things are possible, (Matthew 19:26). 11) I believe voting is a God-given right and it is our civic and moral duty to vote. 12) I believe we need to pray for our nation. 13) I believe God will hold each person accountable for how they vote. 14) I believe the party whose policies most closely reflect Biblical principles should get our vote. 15) I believe the best is yet to come because as a child of God, the best is yet to come.
